Posted: 19/12/2011Community facilities in the King Valley are set to be dramatically improved with the confirmation of funding to develop the King Valley Community Complex in Whitfield.
Mayor of the Rural City of Wangaratta, Cr Roberto Paino, said "confirmation of funding for this project, through the Victorian Government’s Local Government Infrastructure Fund, is great news for the King Valley community.
"A feasibility study initiated by the local community identified the need for a community centre to accommodate a range of health, social and business activities," said Mayor Paino.
"The AC Swinburne Pavilion in Whitfield is seen as a central meeting place for not only the Whitfield Community but also the broader King Valley community. Recognising this, Council has assisted with the development and enhancement of the facility over a number of years.
"This project will see the AC Swinburne Pavilion further developed to accommodate the community services identified in the feasibility study. It will become a more flexible, accessible and welcoming place and help to further strengthen the community," said Mayor Paino.
The King Valley Community Complex project will come to fruition thanks to a grant of $500,000 from the Victorian Government’s Local Government Infrastructure Fund, $100,000 from Wangaratta Rural City Council and an in-kind and cash contribution of $13,000 from the local community.
The final design phase of the project will commence early next year with further community consultation. Detailed design is expected to commence in April 2012, with building works commencing in Spring 2012.
