Posted: 07/06/2012Do you live in Wangaratta, have a spare bedroom and like meeting new people?
If you answered yes - then hosting visitors to the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues just might be for you.
This year’s Festival runs from Thursday, 1 November to Tuesday, 6 November 2012, with commercial accommodation almost booked out organisers are hoping residents will consider offering a bedroom or their home to visitors.
“We are encouraging people to open their homes during the festival. There is very limited accommodation available at the moment and this really does help those visitors who may otherwise miss out,” said Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre Coordinator, Wendy Heddle.
“You can offer a bedroom, two bedrooms or even your whole home if that suits your plans.”
Mrs Heddle said not only do those who participate receive financial gain; it is also a great way to meet new people and get involved with the Festival.
“Many longterm friendships have been developed through the Home Hosting program, with people staying at a place one year, often returning the next year to stay again,” she said.
“We are looking for homes within town limits, preferably within walking distance to the main street,” said Ms Heddle.
This year the Home Hosting program, which was formerly known as the Homestay program, will be moving to online bookings through the Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre.
“Visitors need to know well in advance that accommodation is available and once they have booked and paid they feel comfortable that their booking is secure – having homes bookable online will significantly streamline the process,” said Ms Heddle.
