Posted: Country Short Course Swimming Championships coming to Wangaratta Aquatic Centre
Swimming Victoria is pleased to announce that the 2012 Country Short Course Swimming Championships will take place at the Wangaratta Indoor Sports & Aquatic Centre on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 August 2012.
This prestigious event will be hosted by Ovens and Murray Swimming Association with the support of the Rural City of Wangaratta.
Swimming Victoria CEO, Warwick Waters said “the Victorian Country Short Course Championships are the pinnacle event of the short course swimming calendar for many country athletes. Swimming Victoria is excited to have this event return to Wangaratta, the event was last held there in 2009. We know the Ovens & Murray District Swimming Association; in partnership with the Rural City of Wangaratta and the YMCA managers of the Wangaratta Indoor Sports & Aquatic Centre will be fantastic hosts for the event.”
Ovens & Murray District Swimming Association President, Anthony Foley said "We are pleased to be selected to host this event in 2012 as it provides a opportunity for our district clubs to showcase Wangaratta and the surrounding towns, whose clubs form our district. It is an opportunity for all country swimmers to swim in one of regional Victoria's best indoor 25m pools. I expect to see some fantastic racing from the best swimmers in Country Victoria.”
Rural City of Wangaratta CEO Doug Sharp said, ‘We welcomed the return of the Victorian Country Short Course Swimming Championships in 2012 and invite all Country Swimmers from across Victoria to come and visit. “We are actively pursuing major sporting events for the region and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to host such an important event at the Wangaratta Indoor Sports & Aquatic Centre – our premier aquatic facility”.
