Posted: 05/12/2011Whether you call it MICE, Conferences, Business Tourism, Meeting Events or any other of the myriad of names that serve to explain the Conference and Business Events Industry – The Rural City of Wangaratta has it on the radar and local businesses are lining up to participate.
Following a free seminar hosted by the Rural City of Wangaratta on 17 November, titled “How your business can benefit from the conferences industry”, local businesses are embracing the concept and are excited to participate in the new planners guide.
The Conference and Business Events Industry in Australia is valued at approximately $18 billion and the new planner’s guide will be the key marketing tool used by the Rural City of Wangaratta to engage with professional conference organisers.
“This new bi-annual publication will offer a comprehensive guide to venues, accommodation, tours & attractions, support services and facilities within the Rural City of Wangaratta,” commented Emma Keith, Tourism Development Officer for the Rural City of Wangaratta. “The guide will be a practical tool used for meeting and event organisers to research, visualize and arrange their event in the region. It will be used to attract conferences and events to the area to further strengthen the region’s reputation in this market and assist us in securing a market share of this $18 billion dollar industry”.
The prospectus to be involved in the new Conference and Events Planner’s guide was launched at the free seminar on the 17 November and has since been distributed to businesses across the Rural City of Wangaratta.
“Local businesses are developing an understanding of the value of tapping into this lucrative market and we have seen great interest in being involved in the new guide. Bookings can still be made up until 14 December, so there is still time for more businesses to get on board. Those who participate in the guide will be promoted to a large database of targeted conference organisers, associations and represented at National tradeshows. It’s a unique opportunity and a great way to engage with a new market and new income stream.”
The Conference and Events Planner’s guide will be launched early in the New Year.
