Recruitment Process

Acknowledgement of Application

Applicants receive a letter or email acknowledging receipt of their application and advising them of the selection time frames.

Shortlisting

After the closing date of a position, applications are shortlisted based upon those applicants who best meet the selection criteria.  The shortlisted applicants are contacted and invited to attend an interview.

Unsuccessful Applicants

Applicants not contacted within two weeks after the closing date have been unsuccessful.

Interview

Interviews follow a structured process, with all applicants being asked the same questions.  However, some areas may be followed up or explored further with applicants.  Interview questions are designed to gather information on how well you meet the selection criteria.  Your answers should accurately reflect your knowledge, skills and experiences.  Applicants will be interviewed by a panel of two or three people.  The interview panel will usually include two representatives from the department of the position being interviewed and a representative from the Human Resources Unit.

Post Interview

Once interviews have been completed, the panel will assess your performance against each criteria and the performance of other applicants.

Reference Checks

Referees of the preferred candidates will be contacted after the interviews.  Please ensure you obtain permission from your referees prior to nominating them.  To assist your referees, we suggest you give them a copy of your application and the selection criteria to prepare them in the event they are contacted.

Offer of Employment

The successful applicant will be offered the position as soon as possible after the panel has made their decision and the Chief Executive Officer has approved the selection recommendation.  Interviewed applicants who are unsuccessful will be notified in writing.

Late Applications

Applications received after the closing date will only be accepted in exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the department or unit manager.
