Flexible Working Arrangements

Council offers flexible working arrangements including starting and finishing times, part time hours, working from home and time in lieu.  Flexible working arrangements can assist employees in maintaining a healthy work/life balance. 

Job Sharing 

Where practical, employees can undertake a job share arrangement.Job sharing can provide a balance between work and other activities including family responsibilities.  Employees who job share receive all benefits as full time employees but on a pro-rata basis.

Training and Development

Council is committed to providing employee training and development opportunities.  These opportunities can enhance employees' skills and knowledge contributing to a vibrant and progressive work place.

Study Assistance

Employees are encouraged to develop their skills and competencies in areas that will enhance Council's customer service, productivity and competitiveness while at the same time improving employees' career prospects. Study assistance is available for employees who undertake approved courses.  Assistance of up to $2,000 per annum and 14 days study leave is available.

Leave Without Pay

Employees can apply to take leave without pay for a period of up to twelve months.This benefit enables employees to pursue personal interests while still offering career security.

Occupational Health & Safety

Council is committed to providing and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace for employees, contractors, customers and visitors.  Council recognises its responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and Regulations and works to ensure it is proactive in preventing injury and illness in the workplace.

48/52 and other Models of Purchased Leave

Employees can apply to purchase an additional one, two, three or four weeks leave in addition to their normal four weeks paid annual leave in exchange for the equivalent number of weeks reduction in salary.  These models are referred to as the 51/52, 50/52, 49/52 or 48/52 model of purchased leave.  For example, if an employee who earns $42,000 per annum (including 4 weeks annual leave) participates in the 48/52 model then the employee would receive $38,769pa ($42,000pa x 48/52 = $38,769pa). 

Maternity and Paternity Leave

Permanent full time or part time employees are entitled to maternity or paternity leave and up to one week of paid pre-natal leave.  Up to 52 weeks of maternity leave can be taken with 14 weeks at full pay or 28 weeks at half pay.  Up to 3 weeks of paternity leave can be taken at full pay or 6 weeks at half pay.

Salary Sacrificing/Packaging

Employees can take advantage of salary sacrificing and packaging opportunities.These include employee contributions to superannuation, access to childcare services provided by Council, annual membership fees and charges to Council owned facilities including the Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre and novated lease arrangements. 

Employee Assistance Program

A free confidential offsite counselling program is available for employees and their immediate family members (living in the employee's household) to use at any time during or outside work hours.EAP provides up to four free consultations to assist staff on a personal and professional level.

Sick Leave/Family Leave/Carers Leave

Employees receive a sick leave entitlement of up to 12 days per year to recover from illness or injury.  Sick leave is also used as family or carers leave when employees are required to care for a member of their immediate family. 

Social Clubs - Indoor and Outdoor

The Social Clubs aim to improve employee morale and create an opportunity for staff to interact with each other.  For a small fee, payable by fortnightly payroll deduction, employees can join either or both of the social clubs and enjoy access to a wide range of social and recreational activities.
